There are pros and cons regarding Beyonce Knowles’ desire to be the next Amazon Superhero, Wonder Woman – a rumor that has spread on the internet. “I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?” she told the Los Angeles Times.
The “Dreamgirls” star also said that she has met with representatives of Warner Bros. and DC Comics to express her interest in a major role in one of the many comic-book adaptations now in the pipeline following the massive success of the “Spider-Man,” “X-Men” and “The Dark Knight,” and “Iron Man” franchises. It’s not clear if anyone will be able to deliver a Wonder Woman project anytime soon.
Ms. Beyonce interest in the role was strengthened earlier this year when she went to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and saw on display Lynda Carter’s iconic costume. “I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume,” she says. “But I love Wonder Woman and it’d be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso.”
Wonder Woman is a fictional character, a DC Comics superheroine created by William Moulton Marston. First appearing in All Star Comics #8 (December 1941), she is one of three characters to have been continuously published by DC Comics since the company’s 1944 inception (except for a brief hiatus in 1984).
Wonder Woman is a member of a fictional, all-female tribe of Amazons who is sent to “man’s world” as an ambassador. Among the Amazons she is known as Princess Diana (being the daughter of Amazon queen Hippolyta); in “man’s world” she takes the secret identity of “Diana Prince.” Her powers include super strength, hand-to-hand combat ability, and sometimes flight. I am sorry, not to be an ass, but I think it would be better that whoever plays Wonder Women resembles her.
